Hamantaschen

Hamantaschen cookies
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 T milk
  • 1 t vanilla
  • 1 t orange zest
  • 2 cup flour
  • 1/4 t baking powder
  • 1/4 t salt
  1. Cream butter and sugar together until smooth.
  2. Add egg, milk, vanilla, and orange zest.
  3. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add these dry ingredients to the wet and mix.
  4. Chill the dough.
  5. Roll the dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
  6. Cut out circles from the dough, around 2.5 inches in diameter.
  7. Place around two teaspoons of jam in the center of each dough circle.
  8. Form the circles into triangles by gently folding up the edges of the circle in three places. Pinch together the edges. Optionally use water to help the edges stick together.
  9. bake at 400 degrees for 7+6 minutes, turning the tray midway

Tips

  • Place the cookies in the fridge for at least 15 minutes prior to placing in the oven. The cold cookies will better hold their shape.
  • Take the cookies out as soon as the bottoms start to brown.
  • The cookies will become softer overnight as they absorb ambient moisture.
